Bees in the Curriculum is a schools resource pack
published by the British Beekeepers Association. It is primarily
intended for use in Key Stages 1 & 2 of the UK National Curriculum.
The pack is crammed full of useful information on bees and beekeeping
and is designed so that those pages which are aimed at providing
background information or activity for teachers are clearly identified
from those which are intended for pupils.
Bees in the Curriculum is structured around six key areas; looking at
minibeasts, the honeybee colony, beekeeping, pollination,
honey and beeswax.
The pack seeks to provide resource material to extend pupils' knowledge
and to develop their skills in National Curriculum subjects. It has
relevance not only in Science but also in Design and Technology,
English and Mathematics.
Developed by beekeeper and former teacher Sylvia Chamberlin, it
contains nearly 90 pages and includes 28 colour photographs, carefully
chosen to illustrate various topics within the pack.

The Bucks County Beekeepers Association schools visiting initiative has
been set up to help teachers who would like to use any of the ideas
from this pack. We would be happy to discuss how the ideas
can be used within the present teaching framework and would support
this work with resources and a visit with a sealed observation
hive. Last year we visited at least 10 schools in this area
and talked to over 1,000 children.
We are offering to provide the pack at a subsidised rate to local
schools. It is an opportunity not to be missed.
