Congratulations to Diane Oldfield who beat
all-comers with her honey cake.
The show was judged by Vivienne Brown who
complemented us on the quality of the entries and said that many of
them were worthy of entry at the National Honey Show. About the ones
that did not make the grade she made the following observations:
The
Show schedule was not read carefully enough:
Honey entered into wrong class (eg: medium instead of dark or
creamed instead of naturally set). Honey in the two jars not
identical. Cake of wax weighing just 2oz when schedule asks for 7 -
9oz. Cake baked in 6" tin when schedule clearly states 7".
Exhibit not prepared adequately :
jar of crystallised honey not stored on a level surface, so sloping
in jar (perhaps a minor point, but if other exhibits are
flat......). Honey not filtered sufficiently leaving traces of
pollen and scum on surface. Honey extracted too soon, so a)
fermenting b) not viscose enough. Jar not filled sufficiently.
Exhibit starting to granulate. Wet surface and air bubbles in
granulated honey class.
